Precious & Related Metals Plating
Note: While it is not necessary to take any AESF
course to be eligible to sit for the respective exam that could lead you
to becoming a Master Surface Finisher (MSF), precious and related metals
plating is a required subject area for obtaing MSF certification.
Target audience: Experienced finishers who work with
complex, high-tech or delicate parts
Prerequisites: Solid understanding of plating
processes suggested
At the conclusion of this course, attendees should:
Have a thorough understanding of the use of gold, silver and
the platinum group metals for a variety of applications, including
jewelry and electronics
Be knowledgeable about conservation (and reuse) of precious metals, as
well as pollution prevention and waste treatment methods
Know how to use the Hull Cell and other plating cells to test
solutions
Understand reel-to-reel plating
Understand different processes—sulfamate nickel, tin, and
tin-lead
Be prepared to take the optional exam that leads to MSF
certification.
